In case you missed it, and in case you didn’t understand from the headline, I should tell you; in 2019-2020 the missus and I decided to give the stiff middle finger to “working for the man” and hit the road (hopefully for good).

And this article here is to explain the “why” of it all.

So let’s go back a few years and a few grey hairs … back to where it all began…

I met the missus (Chiara (pronounced kee-ar-ra, what a weirdo)) in a martial-arts class in Bundaberg, QLD, where I was living at the time. One thing led to another and after several delicious beverages and adventures together, she decided that I was the best thing since sliced bread and latched onto me like the face-hugger from the Aliens movies.

After we had been dating several months we moved to the Sunshine Coast, QLD to see what that area of Australia had to offer.

It turns out, the Sunshine Coast has A LOT to offer.

Beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, really friendly and amazing people.

I was working full-time and Chiara was studying and working part-time, and on the weekends and free time, we spent our time exploring areas we hadn’t been before.

And those times were AWESOME!

Every week, seeing new things.

New places.

New people.

Strange or quirky or just downright special parts of the world that most people won’t get to see.

And eventually, we began to ask the question:

“Wouldn’t it be great to do this all the time?”

That led to the next question:

“Why don’t we do this all the time?”

And that led to a lot of discussions, some heated discussions (what the missus calls ‘discussions’ and I call ‘fights’), some figuring and some scheming and some planning.

And at the end, at the crux of the matter, what it all boiled down to for me was one single all-important message.

Make sure you pay attention to this, it may be the most important message you ever read in your life:

“As far as we know, we are only on this Earth for this ONE TIME. Once this time is gone, we can NEVER get it back!”

And so with that in mind, it became an easy decision for the both of us to quit jobs, pull up stumps, take a powder, hit the bricks and follow the frog and toad. (If you don’t understand any of these phrases it’s ok, they all mean the same thing – to leave.)

Because life is short and fleeting. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the stuff that steals your time, like work, social engagements and meeting the expectations of others. And it seems that the older I get, the quicker the time goes.

So why waste it staying in the same place, seeing the same things?

The world is a big place.

Chances are very good you’ll never see all of it, even if you live to 130.

Imagine all the amazing places out there that you would love to visit.

Imagine the experiences you could have.

Imagine the people you could meet and connect with.

Have you ever thought about quitting your life right now and seeing what’s out there?

Maybe you should…

Be Wild and Free!
